Warning: not every QR scanner app is safe
How to spot manipulation and protect your data
More and more people rely on QR codes — convenient, fast and everywhere. What many don’t realise is that not every app that scans QR codes is trustworthy. Some so-called “QR scanner apps” on Android or iOS misuse the scan moment to request payment details, show ads, or even collect data without consent.
How third-party scanner apps trick users
- They show their own interface instead of your browser, hiding the actual website being opened.
- They inject ads or pop-ups to keep the app “free”.
- They ask for payments or “extra verification” unrelated to the QR code.
It may look like you scanned a DynaTag code, but in reality there’s a middle layer — the app itself — that misleads you.
How to recognise a suspicious QR scanner app
- The app asks for credit card or banking details after scanning.
- You see ads or banners before or after the website opens.
- Messages like “Enable premium to open this link”.
- A URL that differs from what’s printed on the product or packaging.
- The app forces login or registration without a clear reason.
If you see any of these signals, close the app and scan the QR code again using your phone’s camera — not a separate scanner app.
How to safely scan a DynaTag
- Open your phone’s camera (supported by both Android and iPhone).
- Point the camera at the QR code.
- Tap the link that appears — it opens directly in your browser.
That’s it. No app. No tracking. No payments.
The safest way to use DynaTag is via your browser — not through external QR apps.
